99% of police try to end conflicts peaceful as possible. Some times they do not have have this option.

Do you know that many of these dogs are well trained, yes, come from shelter dogs...those that are aggressive and have trouble staying adopted.
Just think of the numbers that dogs get adopted for this reason and into forever homes. On the Greater Good there was one such dog posted. Four times he had been brought back; then a law enforcement officer spotted him, took him home and the training began...later on, it showed this dog in action running down a criminal and keeping him down until his master arrived...doesn't have to be a Shepherd, many are Labs or Lab crosses, Pit Bull crosses, etc.
It is work of beauty and knowledge when you watch...a good way to resolve problems between the criminal and law enforcement.
Let us encourage other agencies to look at shelter dogs for a variety of reasons..protection of course; some can be trained to even let their person know if they skipped a med time!
