In April, a Delta County sheriff's deputy shot a woman he attempted to pull over for driving without license plates. Recently, the district attorney ruled that the shooting was justified. The department also released the footage of the shooting.
Traffic Stop
According to Delta County District Attorney Seth Ryan, said a deputy attempted to stop Paige Schmidt Pierce. She was on Highway 92, and the 26-year-old was driving without her plates.
Pierce decided to flee. She nearly hit a highway worker and passed many vehicles in a no-passing area. Deputies employed the use of stop sticks to get Pierce to stop.
She pulled off the road and into a private drive. Delta County Sheriff Deputy Nolan Davis pulled along behind her and quickly got out.
He was fully prepared to have to chase her on foot. Davis also has a civilian ride-along in his car.
Not Stopping
Pierce decided to hit the gas and ram her way through a small opening between the deputy's truck and another vehicle. She almost hit the officer who was running toward her.
You can see Deputy Davis firing multiple shots in the bodycam footage as the vehicle heads toward him. According to the district attorney, it was such a close call that the civilian inside Davis' truck braced for impact.
According to a witness, it almost looked like she was purposefully trying to hit the officer.
“Her trajectory fairly straight on toward Deputy Davis until the approximate time he opened fire on her.”

Self Defense
According to the DA, Davis fired multiple rounds because he was concerned that her trajectory would change and that she would slam him up against his truck. A witness said it looked like she would run him over with the car.
The DA would not be bringing charges against Davis, as he could not accurately say that the deputy's actions were not self-defense-related.
“Given the evidence, the People cannot disprove beyond a reasonable doubt that Davis was acting in Self-Defense, and the District Attorney cannot file criminal charges against Deputy Nolan Davis.”

How are we going to retain police officers
considering the terrible attitudes of some of our citizens. Thank G-d that this particular district attorney backed this police officer.
A vehicle can also be a lethal weapon, I think the officer fired in self defense. She was the catalyst for the whole episode. These are not Obama rules of engagement where you have to be shot at first before you can defend yourself. Just obey the damn laws and give the police the respect they deserve.

It's a safe bet to say that if people like this didn't have something(s) to hide, and were innocent, they would not have a problem stopping. So the minute they attempt to flee by whatever method, it pretty much proves their guilt and that the officers have legitimate cause to stop them and take whatever actions needed to ensure everyone's safety -- including their own! Kind of like the Democrats protesting voter fraud investigations -- if everything was on the up-and-up (as my Daddy use to say) with nothing to hide, they wouldn't be fighting it tooth and nail. Not only a policeman, but all people have a right to defend themselves when threatened with death. Also saving the life of the person riding with him.

We must put down every criminal that tries to use violence on a police officer. If people have no respect for the life of an officer then they will have no respect for society.
It is a terrible thing to have to discharge your weapon at a suspect because of the belief that if you don't they will kill you. No matter if it is to save your life it works on the mind of any honest Police Officer who will never forget that moment and will always be trying to run it through his mind again and again to see something, anything could have been done different to save that persons life. I know of more than a few Officers who quit the force so that they would never again have to make that choice.
I feel sorry for the poor deputy. He was FORCED to defend himself AND OTHERS from this id it driver.
She almost killed a highway work crew member, sidestepped several more vehicles, and let's not forget the civilian ride-along person in the police truck!!!

If you think that LE is in error, argue it IN COURT!! That way, you are still alive and your attorney can present your case/objection.
Society has taken a back seat to common sense and TRUTH! Our safety is the #1 concern of the police, and the only ones that don't believe it are just REFUSING to believe it!! We all make mistakes and our actions and responses to those mistakes might be difficult to accept, but that is what mature, honest people do. Anyone that is stopped by the police would ALL GO HOME if they just listened and followed the instructions given. DEFENSIVE ACTIONS against the police are IGNORANT ACTIONS that ALWAYS RESULT IN NEGATIVE RESULTS, and should be avoided at all costs!

Well, I guess we have to ban all vehicles now to not just guns. What's next! The Dems seem to think they have all the answers and we are all stupid. All this over a license plate?
It may have started over a license plate but it escalated to more when she struck the road worker. I'm sure that the Deputy would have acted differently if the operator had not been involved in these other incidents. Had the operator stopped I'm sure that citations would have been issued and the driver would have gone home. The driver made the choice to be stupid. As we say, "You play stupid games you win stupid prizes".
It's a shame that things turned out the way they did but the Deputy stopped the threat to the public and himself.

I have one suggestion...they should stop blanking out the faces of these criminals! Let those thinking that those car chases look like fun get a good look at how they are likely to end up, bruised and bloodied, and possibly DEAD!! The nut job who got shot must have been white. I say this because there were no RIOTS and they did not file charges against the Deputy who fired the shots.
