Trooper May

Yet another officer was lost in the line of duty. A suspect hit a Nevada State Trooper with their vehicle while fleeing.

Suspect Pursuit

Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Micah May was laying out spike strips to stop a suspect on Interstate 15 when he was hit. According to KVVU, Douglas Claiborne crashed into the officer.

When the carjacker hit May, he flew through the windshield. The suspect was also armed. The suspect took off.

Officers stopped him near Sahara Avenue, surrounding the vehicle. When Claiborne allegedly went for his gun, officers shot at him. Claiborne was killed by the officers.

Trooper May was taken to University Medical Center where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.

In a Facebook post the Nevada Highway Patrol wrote, “With heavy hearts, we confirm the loss of Nevada Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol Trooper Micah May #6203.”

Decorated Officer

Trooper May had been with the Nevada Highway Patrol for 13 years. In 2014, he was presented with the Medal of Valor for ” courageous actions in the line of duty.”

But that wasn’t the only recognition May received over the years.

“Dedicated to apprehending impaired drivers from Nevada’s roadways, Trooper May received numerous awards for his contributions in the prevention and enforcement of impaired drivers.”

“Trooper May’s heroism exemplified the definition of a silent guardian. His dedication and service will never be forgotten. Our hearts go out to this grieving family and recognize the unique sacrifice to the State of Nevada. My thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones.”
