Shootings across the country have become more and more prevalent. Recently in Chicago, six people were shot as they were walking to their cars.

Terrible Shooting

Out of the six who were shot, one has died, and another is critically injured. One of the wounded is a Chicago firefighter who was off-duty at the time.

The victims were walking to their cars around 9:40 p.m. when the suspect in another vehicle "fired multiple rounds, striking the victims." One of them was a 42-year-old woman who took two shots to the arm and one to her armpit.

According to police officers, She was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center. The woman died of her injuries at 10:28 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The woman was identified as Schenia Smith from Dolton. Smith is survived by her mother and children. Four of the other victims were taken via ambulance to local hospitals for care.

The fifth victim was brought to Little Company of Mary Hospital in a private car. The 32-year-old firefighter had been shot in the face and was listed in critical condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Multiple Victims

According to the fire department spokesman, Larry Langford, he remains in critical condition. Langford shared very few details about the man.

The only details he shared about the firefighter was that he had been with the department for a few years.

A 38-year-old man was hit in the stomach while a 15-year girl was shot in the arm. In addition, a 22-year-old man was shot in the leg and is in fair condition.

Not The First Attack

According to police officers, this was not the first shooting in Chicago from the weekend. Around 5 p.m., there was a shooting in the Grand Crossing neighborhood.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the shots came from a black SUV. The victims were between 24 and 28 years old.

Out of the four people who were shot, the 24-year-old died. Police officers are still looking into both of the shootings, and no arrests have been made.
