Snipers are a highly-trained group of soldiers in the military, especially those in the Special Air Service. In December 2015, one of these SAS snipers took out a bomb-making facility in Iraq using three bullets and killed five enemy fighters.

Incredible Shot

The SAS sniper was set up about 800 meters from the factory. He saw a group outside the factory wearing clothing that was way too warm and bulky for the season, a clear indication that they were likely wearing suicide vests.

His observation skills paid off. The sniper had been with the SAS for 10 years and masterfully hit the first man in the chest, triggering the vest’s detonation. Three fighters were killed in the blast.

The two remaining men tried to run into the factory for cover, but the sniper shot one in the head, while hitting the other in the vest, which of course, set it off.

“Classic” Mission

A British Army source spoke to the Express regarding the mission. The source said, “This was a classic SAS mission.”

“About three weeks (before), the intelligence guys got information that a bomb factory had been set up in a nearby village. With just three well-aimed shots, that single team has probably saved the lives of hundreds of innocent people. The unit was sent in to see if they could identify the house and the bombers.”

A sniper was used for the mission due to concerns about too much collateral damage in the area. The British source said, “There were too many civilian homes nearby, and children were often around, so an airstrike was out of the question.”

The source said, “Instead, the SAS commander in Iraq decided to use a sniper team, and the operation was a complete success.” Snipers are vital pieces of the battlefield because they can be stealthy and often do as much work without unnecessary deaths or damage.

In August 2015, a different British sniper was said to have saved a father and his 8-year-old son from execution. He struck an ISIS terrorist just before the two were beheaded.
