The U.S. Military NCO Provides Major Advantage Over Russian Military

 March 29, 2022

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has all but stalled due to no shortage of challenges. Weak supply lines, low morale, fierce Ukrainian resistance, but most importantly, poor front-line leadership.

The United States Military is one of the most elite fighting forces in the world. But how does such a force maintain it's edge? There are many factors, but one has proven itself over and over: the Noncommissioned Officer (NCO).

The U.S. dedicates an astronomical amount of resources into training and educating it's servicemembers. As they promote through the ranks, these men and women become NCO's and they are essential to the operation of the U.S. military.

The Russian military does not have an NCO corps:

“They don’t organize their military the way we do,... They don’t have an equivalent to a noncommissioned officer corps, for instance, and their junior officers don’t have the same wherewithal, flexibility. … we put a lot into an E-4 and an E-5 and an E-6 to make decisions literally in the moment on the battlefield. They don’t have that kind of a tradition, they don’t have that structure.”

The Russian military relies on men between the ages of 18 to 27 years old who are drafted into service, whereas the U.S. military is a volunteer force. Apparently, only about half of the drafted Russian soldiers even show up. Most Russian troops serve for less than a year with no real career path or progression system.

Contrast this with the U.S. military NCO corps which is the progression of every enlisted servicemember. Achieving the status of an NCO is a rewarding experience with real world applications in the civilian job market. These NCO's typically look to serve in the military for 20 years or more and preserve a huge pool of knowledge.

“Without my NCOs, it’s impossible for me to be able to effectively lead my team,... I wouldn’t have the right guidance, I wouldn’t have the right expertise and leadership on the team to be able to motivate, track, and really do the impossible for our soldiers. They’re the connective tissue to the mission.”

Retired U.S. Army Capt. Florent Groberg

The Russian military's lack of an NCO corps or something like it is likely a major weakness. Inversely, the U.S. military's NCO corps is one of it's greatest strengths and would lend itself to a decisive advantage over Russia in a direct conflict.

  1. Then the US military throws out thousands of our soldiers, sailors, marines because they don’t want a jab that may kill them with heart attacks, blood clots in their lungs, around their hearts, or in their brains.
Maybe the Generals in the Pentagon should go back to being milirptary officers instead of politicians or wannabe doctors.

  2. The only President that is able to put this Country back where it belong PRESIDENT TRUMP and until the people who has COMMON SENSE do this, THE United States OF AMERICA will be the LAUGHING STOCK of the WORLD. The people who are running this Country, doesn't know anything about running this Country, they are people who are used to going to work nine o'clock in the morning and leave work at five in the afternoon, therefore, how in the world people like these could run an Empire like the White House FOR THE WORLD? They don't know anything about WAR, they don't know anything about SOLDIERS FIGHTING A WAR, they don't know anything and until we get them out of the White House and put someone who knows, this Country will be in HeLL. Again I say, there is a GHOST in the White House and until BIDEN gets his sorry ass out of the White House, this Country will go down the drain.

Wake up people, we cannot go through three years of STUPIDITY. Now is the time to act, because the people who are running this Country are in it for their BANK ACCOUNT only, they don't care what happens as long as their BANK ACCOUNT is full. WAKE UP PEOPLE.

  3. The ONLY way to save America is through another civil war, and not stop fighting until EVERY last remnant of the democRAT party is eradicated. Afterwards, raise the voting age to 30 to keep stupid "children" with no real life experience from voting in hopes of getting "freebies".

  4. The main reason our military is the most elite fighting force is due to the fact that our men and women in uniform love our country and they love what it stands for. In countries like Russia and China they worship their leader not so much of the country. What pisses me off is organizations like the NFL disrespecting our flag and our national anthem. Furthermore it pisses me off when Biden gives Terrorist Groups like what happened in Afghanistan on the withdrawal and caused 13 service personnel to be killed but the love for our country never changes.

  5. They are trying their very best to destroy our military by mandating the death vaccine. Also giving illegals medical treatment while depriving our veterans. We need to clean house of left wing politicians.

  6. The Best advice I was ever given in my USMC career was from my company 1st sgt while on Marine Barracks duty in Subic Bay Phillipines. As then a PFC. "NO matter how many stripes you have. Be the Best damn corporal in your company"
In the chain of command the corporal Is the first one the Privates, Lance corporals talk too. A Corporal is the team leader. I never lost sight of that in my 20 plus years.
