I wonder, what aircraft do we have as a true ground support aircraft that can get down slow and low in the mud? One that could truly support Army and Marine grunts? Can the unreliable F-35 or the excellent F-16 do it? Can a supersonic, low count wing stanchion, low count munitions, low time on station aircraft do it? I think not.
The only aircraft we have today for such a job is the ugly, slow Wart Hog, the A-10. Perhaps we need a newer aircraft, but a sleek high speed, high altitude aircraft will never be able to fulfill its unique task, that of truly supporting ground troops engaged with enemy ground troops.
By the way, I was never associated with the A-10 program. I was mainly an RC-135 crewdog and for a short time an F-16 command post controller.

Disparage? I think I clearly implied we have NO other aircraft today that can act as a close ground support aircraft. Ugly, and slow, yes, Effective, heck yes! A new aircraft? Maybe an A-10D two-seat Night Adverse Weather platform. I love the aircraft.
I think you're absolutely right. We build new untested aircraft while countries like Russia are simply upgrading their Migs. And another thing. We used to see A10s and other planes fly over our house to a range for obvious practice. Over the past two year there have been absolutely none. Our military planes are not flying. Just like back when Obama was in power and the Air Force said it couldn't afford fuel. If we get into any kind of conflict it'll be an absolute slaughter, with Americans on the receiving end.

I'm in no way someone that is qualified to judge/evaluate the strength/effectiveness of our military. All that I know is, when Donald Trump was our president, our military was strong and the envy of the world and our allies! If it was up to me, I would have Joe Biden and his entire Criminal Family put up on ropes and placed where average American Citizens could use them for target practice!
