The staunch Ukrainian resistance against Russia has surprised many, especially the Pentagon. While mostly hands off in the beginning of the invasion, the U.S. has gone from barely acknowledging a small shipment of Stinger missiles to openly supporting Ukraine with training, intel and billions of dollars in equipment.
Obviously, this has led to an escalation of tensions between the U.S. and Russia. Some fear that this significant support may lead to a direct confrontation in the near future.
Currently, the U.S. has sent helicopters, armored vehicles, drones, artillery, small arms, and ammunition. Also, a training pipeline has been set up in Germany by the U.S. troops formerly stationed in Ukraine. This training focuses mainly on artillery and radar systems.
Aside from the equipment and training, it has been confirmed that U.S. intelligence is being provided to Ukraine. Allegedly, this intelligence has been used to sink a Russian warship and to kill about a dozen Russian Generals.
The next step in U.S. support to Ukraine will be Defense contracts to maintain the equipment sent over. This will prevent sidelining of gear rendered ineffective by lack of maintenance.
"All the equipment that we're giving to the Ukrainians is just too extensive to be absorbed in the short amount of time that we're giving them,... I think we're just asking too much, frankly, and I think what's going to happen is that, when that becomes apparent, we'll start using contractors in some way."

Once this happens, the U.S. will essentially be fighting Russia by proxy through the Ukrainian military. Considering the Eurasionistic worldview of Putin, this leads to concerns that he may retaliate with force against the United States.
Hopefully the degree of separation between support and direct action will prevent this.

I wonder how many men would volunteer to form trained groups to help fight the Russian troops killing so many people in Ukraine. Looks like they could end the war much quicker if they had more trained help. Maybe I am wrong, but it breaks my heart to hear about so many people being killed, especially children, and I do not think Putin will stop with Ukraine. He will continue trying to take over every country he can. If the war comes to the America, I wonder if anyone will come to help us fight back ?
