How a convicted felon got a firearm was something unlawful: either he stole it, took it from a lawful owner, bought it on the street (unlawful) from an "unlicensed dealer", or got someone to purchase it lawfully for him (aiding & abetting). Evidently it's not that difficult, because it happens quite regularly. However, that's NOT an excuse to disarm lawful gun owners; it simply means we need a "better" caliber of citizens, & gun owners need better training.
