I think they made a mistake putting the tower at the rear of the carrier, and going with the electric power catapult was a mistake. It doesn’t give much room for error when big air craft are landing. What happens when the power is cut off, and it could happen, what is the plan if that happens. Wonderful Carrier but needs up grades to be efficient enough to be able to land bomber air craft, and this carrier is big enough to do just that.
The electro-magnetic cat-breaking system allows for nearly instantaneous adjust for the size of/weight of aircraft being launched and recovered. The new system is also FAR less stressful on the aircraft because the stress is added and removed in a gradual way rather than all at once as with the steam powered systems. This mean LESS maintenance on both the aircraft and the ships systems. The steam systems are prone to steam leakage - not so with the magnetic systems. there are NO down sides to the new system other than dependence on available power...But since the ship has multiple redundancy. It is a non issue in most cases...
