A Russian man endured nearly 10 weeks adrift in the Sea of Okhotsk, surviving an ordeal that claimed the lives of his brother and nephew before his dramatic rescue.
According to CBS News, Mikhail Pichugin, 46, was discovered in a tiny inflatable vessel 11 nautical miles off the Kamchatka Peninsula on October 14, nearly 540 nautical miles from where his journey began.
In early August, Pichugin embarked on a trip with his 49-year-old brother and 15-year-old nephew to observe whales near the Shantar Islands in the northwestern portion of the Sea of Okhotsk. The adventure took a tragic turn when their boat, bound for Sakhalin Island, experienced engine failure on August 9, setting them adrift.
