Hezbollah Launches Major Assault With 250 Rockets On Israel

 November 26, 2024

The decades-long conflict between Israel and Hezbollah escalates as the Lebanese militant group unleashes one of its most substantial attacks in recent history.

According to Irish Star, Hezbollah fired approximately 250 rockets and projectiles into Israel on Sunday, with some reaching Tel Aviv, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between the two forces.

The attack resulted in seven injuries, according to Israeli health authorities, while Israeli defense systems managed to intercept numerous incoming projectiles. This aggressive move came as a direct response to an Israeli air raid in Beirut on Saturday that claimed 29 lives and left 67 people wounded.

Israeli Military Actions And Lebanese Casualties Mount

The Israeli military expressed regret over a separate assault that resulted in the death of one Lebanese soldier and injured 18 others at a military base in southwest Lebanon. This incident occurred in an area where active combat with Hezbollah continues.

The conflict has taken a severe toll on both sides since its intensification in October. Lebanese officials report that Israeli attacks have resulted in over 3,700 deaths and displaced 1.2 million people in Lebanon. Meanwhile, Israel has suffered approximately 90 military casualties and nearly 50 civilian deaths.

The situation deteriorated further when Israeli airstrikes expanded throughout Lebanon in September, resulting in the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

Diplomatic Efforts To Broker Peace Agreement

Lebanon's acting Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, criticized the recent Israeli strike, describing it as a deliberate act that jeopardizes ongoing peace talks. He emphasized that the attack was a violent rejection of efforts aimed at fostering dialogue and resolving tensions.

The international community has increased its involvement in seeking a resolution to the conflict. US envoy Amos Hochstein conducted diplomatic visits to both Lebanon and Israel last week in an attempt to facilitate negotiations between the warring parties.

The European Union's chief diplomat, Josep Borrell, has called for increased pressure on both Israel and Hezbollah to agree to a ceasefire. These diplomatic initiatives come at a crucial time as the violence continues to escalate and civilian casualties mount on both sides.

Current State Of Regional Conflict

The most recent series of attacks signals a dangerous new phase in the decades-old conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. The military exchange has grown increasingly intense since October 7, with both sides demonstrating their capability and willingness to inflict significant damage.

The Israeli military alleges that the Beirut strike targeted senior Hezbollah military figure, Mohammad Haidar, though this claim has intensified regional tensions. The death toll among Lebanese military personnel has reached over 40 due to Israeli attacks since the conflict's beginning.

The situation continues to destabilize the region as international mediators work to prevent further escalation. The involvement of various global actors, including the US and EU, underscores the conflict's broader implications for regional stability and international relations.

Crisis Deepens As Peace Remains Elusive

Hezbollah's unprecedented rocket barrage on Israel, including strikes reaching Tel Aviv for the first time in decades, represents a significant escalation in the ongoing Middle East conflict. The attack, involving approximately 250 rockets and projectiles, came in response to an Israeli air raid in Beirut that resulted in 29 fatalities.

As diplomatic efforts continue through US envoy Amos Hochstein and EU officials, the death toll rises on both sides. With over 3,700 Lebanese casualties and more than 140 Israeli deaths reported, the path to peace appears increasingly challenging as both parties maintain their aggressive stances despite international calls for de-escalation.
