New Year’s Day in New Orleans was rocked by a devastating terrorist attack that claimed multiple lives and caused numerous injuries.
According to Fox News, on January 1, 2025, Shamsud-Din Jabbar mounted a terrorist assault on Bourbon Street involving a vehicle and firearms, resulting in 15 fatalities, including the perpetrator, and wounding 35 people.
At approximately 3:15 a.m. on January 1, 2025, Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove a rented white Ford F-150 through the bustling streets of Bourbon Street. Witnesses reported that after crashing, Jabbar began firing at civilians and police officers from beneath the truck’s deployed airbag.
The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) swiftly responded to the scene. Officers found themselves in an immediate, intense exchange of gunfire with the armed assailant. Through this chaos, police bodycam footage captured the critical moments of the confrontation, which the NOPD later released to the public.
Police Officers Act Under Fire
The body camera footage, which lasts about 13 seconds, shows how officers courageously approached the threat. Amid the sound of gunfire and confusion on the festive streets, Sergeant Nigel Daggs, along with Officers Christian Beyer and Jacobie Jordan, were identified as the officers who returned fire at Jabbar, leading to his neutralization at the scene.
An NOPD press release clarified the events: “After the officers surrounded the pickup truck, the driver fired at them. The officers involved, including Sergeant Daggs, Officers Beyer, and Jordan, responded with lethal force, resulting in the assailant’s death at the scene.” Despite the successful neutralization of the threat, the shootout resulted in injuries to two officers. Officers Jacobie Jordan and Joseph Rodrigue each received a gunshot wound to the thigh, and Officer Rodrigue additionally suffered a fractured shoulder during the assault.

The service records of these officers vary, with Jacobie Jordan and Christian Beyer being relatively new to the NOPD, having served less than two years, while Sergeant Daggs has been a part of the force for 21 years and Officer Rodrigue for nine years.
