Iran retaliates with deadly missiles after US strikes nuclear sites

 June 23, 2025

In a dramatic escalation of Middle East tensions, Iranian forces launched a devastating missile attack against Israel, leaving dozens injured and multiple cities in chaos after the United States bombed key nuclear facilities in Iran.

According to The Daily Caller, the early Sunday morning assault resulted in at least 86 Israeli civilians being hospitalized after Iran fired 27 ballistic missiles in two separate waves targeting multiple locations across Israel's northern and central regions.

The attack marked Iran's first direct military response following the U.S. bombing campaign that deployed six 30,000-pound "bunker buster" bombs against Iran's Fordow nuclear facility, along with numerous Tomahawk missiles targeting additional nuclear sites at Esfahan and Natanz.

Widespread Panic as Sirens Failed to Warn

The missile barrage began just before 8 a.m. local time, catching many Israelis off guard as they started their Sunday routines. Warning systems proved inconsistent, with the northern city of Haifa experiencing a direct hit without any advance alert from air raid sirens.

Multiple explosions illuminated the skies above Jerusalem as Israel's defense systems attempted to intercept the incoming projectiles. The attacks created widespread panic as civilians rushed to find shelter across the impacted regions.

Emergency response teams scrambled to multiple impact sites spanning ten different locations, with Magen David Adom (MDA) medical services conducting extensive search and rescue operations throughout the affected areas.

Critical Medical Response Underway

Four victims remain in critical condition as medical teams work around the clock to treat the wounded. Among those hospitalized are two children receiving urgent care at Tel Aviv's Ichilov Medical Center.

The Israeli Health Ministry reports that beyond the four critical cases, two patients are in moderate condition while three others remain under close medical observation. A man in his 30s suffered serious shrapnel wounds during the attacks.

Israel's emergency medical infrastructure has been fully activated, with hospitals across the country mobilizing additional staff and resources to handle the crisis. MDA teams continue to monitor impact sites for additional casualties.

US Strategic Strike Sparks Regional Crisis

The U.S. military operation against Iran's nuclear infrastructure represented a major escalation in the ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran. The deployment of specialized bunker-buster munitions indicated American forces specifically targeted hardened underground facilities.

The bombing campaign focused on three key sites within Iran's nuclear program: Fordow, Esfahan, and Natanz. These facilities have long been suspected of playing crucial roles in Iran's nuclear development efforts.

The American strikes demonstrated a significant shift in U.S. policy toward more direct military action against Iran's nuclear capabilities, moving beyond previous strategies of sanctions and diplomatic pressure.

Iranian Response Signals New Phase

The coordinated missile assault against Israeli territories marks a severe intensification of Iran's military responses to Western actions. The attack's precision and scale suggest careful planning by Iranian forces.

Israel's population of 9.3 million now faces heightened security concerns as the possibility of additional Iranian strikes remains. Defense forces have maintained a high alert status across all regions, particularly in areas near previous impact sites.

The developing situation has created significant diplomatic tensions, with international leaders calling for immediate de-escalation while regional military forces remain on high alert for potential further exchanges.
