Emergency call recordings have captured the chaos and horror surrounding a deadly attack on a Charlotte light rail train.
The 911 audio from the brutal stabbing of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska was released Wednesday, revealing bystanders desperately pleading for assistance during the August incident. The Daily Caller reported that the recordings document the tragic final moments of the 23-year-old victim.
Video footage of the attack had previously circulated online before officials arrested DeCarlos Brown Jr. in connection with the murder. The newly released audio provides additional insight into the witness accounts and emergency response during the fatal incident.
Witness Accounts Detail Brutal Attack
Multiple bystanders contacted emergency services to report the unprovoked assault on the light rail system. One witness was heard telling the 911 operator about the shocking nature of the crime that had just unfolded.
"We're on a train. This man just fucking stabbed this woman for no reason," the distressed witness reported to emergency dispatchers. The 911 operator responded by confirming that medical personnel were standing by and sought clarification about the incident details.
The operator asked whether the witness had indeed reported that a male suspect had "stabbed someone for no reason" and inquired about the need for medical services. The witness confirmed the stabbing while expressing visible distress about the victim's condition and the severity of her injuries.
Emergency Response And Medical Concerns
The witness described Zarutska's critical condition as blood continued to flow from her wounds on the train floor. Emergency dispatchers worked to gather location information while coordinating the appropriate medical response to the scene.
"Yeah, it's on a train. Yes, she's fucking bleeding," the witness responded when asked about the need for medical assistance. A second witness joined the call to provide additional details about the victim's deteriorating condition.
The second caller reported seeing Zarutska on the ground "with a lot of blood" near her location on the train car. This witness described other passengers screaming about the stabbing while expressing uncertainty about whether emergency services had already been contacted.
Victim's Critical Condition Described
Witnesses provided increasingly grim assessments of Zarutska's medical status as the emergency call continued. The second witness observed other passengers attempting to provide basic medical assistance while awaiting professional help.
"She's on the train. She's on the ground right now," the second witness reported to the operator. The caller noted that bystanders were "holding pressure on this wound site" while dealing with significant blood loss from the victim.
When asked whether they had directly witnessed the stabbing, the second witness admitted they had not seen the actual attack. However, they expressed concern that Zarutska appeared to have "no pulse" based on their observations of her condition.
Suspect Description And Scene Details
The third witness provided crucial details about the suspect's appearance and location following the attack. Emergency responders had begun arriving at the scene, though police presence remained limited during the initial response phase.
"I think she's dead, man," the third witness told the operator while noting that fire department personnel had reached the location. The witness expressed concern that police officers had not yet arrived despite the suspect remaining visible on the platform area.
The witness described Brown as a black male with dreadlocks who had sustained injuries to his hand during the attack. The suspect was reportedly walking back and forth on the platform while wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans, with his injured hand wrapped in a red jacket.
