A newly released police interview video captures the moment when Kathy Allen realizes her husband Richard Allen lied about his whereabouts during the 2017 murders of two teenage girls in Delphi, Indiana.
According to Daily Mail, footage from an October 2022 police interview shows Richard Allen admitting to his wife that he was present on the Monon High Bridge when 13-year-old Abby Williams and 14-year-old Libby German were killed, contradicting what he had previously told her.
The video, obtained by YouTube channel 'Crime Circus,' reveals the emotional confrontation between the couple during a break in Allen's police questioning. When Kathy asks if he was on the bridge that day, Allen acknowledges being there and walking to "the first trestle," leading to his wife's visible distress as she recalls telling investigators the opposite.
Wife's shocking realization during police interview
Kathy Allen appears devastated in the footage when confronting her husband about his changed story. Through tears, she tells him she had informed police he wasn't on the bridge, based on his previous claims to her. Allen attempts to reassure his distraught wife, telling her she isn't "in any trouble."
The exchange grows tense when Allen briefly loses composure after his wife points out the discrepancy in his accounts. He starts to explain but abruptly stops himself mid-sentence, looking away before expressing his love and kissing her.
This revelation came during Allen's second police interview, two weeks after investigators initially questioned him about the murders. The first interview occurred after police discovered an overlooked tip from 2017 where Allen had admitted being on the trail the day of the killings.
Critical evidence leads to conviction
Law enforcement's search of the Allens' home uncovered damning evidence, including what they called a "Bridge Guy starter kit" - blue jeans and a Carhartt jacket matching the suspect's outfit captured in Libby's cell phone video. They also found Allen's Sig Sauer pistol, which ballistics experts linked to a bullet discovered between the victims' bodies.
During his time in custody, Allen confessed to the murders 61 times, including in recorded calls to his wife and mother. In one particularly incriminating admission, he revealed details only the killer would know, describing how he had intended to sexually assault the girls but quickly killed them after being startled by a passing white van.
Kathy Allen stood by her husband through his trial despite these confessions. When he was found guilty in November and sentenced to 130 years in prison, she remained defiant, telling reporters "This isn't over at all."
In the shadow of justice
Richard Allen's defense team attempted to blame the murders on a local white nationalist cult, claiming the girls were killed in a ritualistic sacrifice. The judge blocked this theory from being presented at trial, along with any alternative suspects.
The victims' families have praised the teenagers' quick thinking in recording their killer. Prosecutor Nick McLeland called them "heroes," specifically commending Libby for capturing the video and Abby for hiding the phone.
Anna Williams, Abby's mother, expressed gratitude that the girls stayed together during their final moments. She told Daily Mail in February that their actions that day ultimately helped solve the crime, though the resolution wasn't what anyone had hoped for.
Truth emerges in devastating case
Richard Allen, a former CVS worker, now serves a 130-year prison sentence for the murders of Abby Williams and Libby German on February 13, 2017, in Delphi, Indiana. The case breakthrough came after investigators discovered his overlooked 2017 statement about being on the Monon High Bridge trail, leading to his arrest and eventual conviction. While his defense team continues to file legal objections and appeal the conviction, the newly released footage of his wife's devastating realization adds another layer to the tragic case that shocked the small Indiana community.
