Florida mom gets life sentence after orchestrating ex's murder over custody battle

 May 1, 2025

A shocking case of revenge and maternal manipulation unfolds as investigators piece together the devastating events that led to a young father's death outside his Florida apartment.

According to Breitbart, Rachiel Moore, 27, has been sentenced to life imprisonment without parole for orchestrating the murder of her ex-partner Colby Vinson, who was shot dead in front of their four-year-old daughter just days after winning shared custody.

The horrific incident took place on March 19, 2023, when Vinson was unloading groceries with his daughter outside his apartment. Moore's former stepfather, Jason Curtis, carried out the shooting after driving from Alabama to Florida, following a week of detailed planning and communication with Moore.

Murder plot unveils disturbing Facebook messages

Investigators discovered that Moore had extensive conversations with Curtis through Facebook Messenger about eliminating Vinson.

She provided him with personal information to help locate and identify her target, along with $50 for gas money to make the journey from Alabama.

Curtis responded to Moore's complaints about the custody arrangement by sending photos of weapons, assuring her not to worry about the situation. The evidence revealed a calculated plan that ultimately led to Vinson's death less than a week after gaining equal custody rights.

Law enforcement found the young child sitting beside her father's lifeless body when they arrived at the crime scene. The devastating image highlighted the personal toll of Moore's vengeful actions.

Failed attempt to cover digital footprint

Moore initially attempted to distance herself from the crime during police questioning. She expressed disbelief that Curtis would commit such an act and acknowledged that the circumstances appeared incriminating.

In a misguided effort to destroy evidence, Moore deleted the Facebook Messenger app from her phone. She incorrectly believed this would erase all traces of her conversations with Curtis about the murder plot.

The Santa Rosa Circuit Court, presided over by Judge Clifton Drake, found Moore guilty of first-degree premeditated murder and tampering with evidence. State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madden announced the verdict and immediate life sentence.

Justice served in tragic custody dispute

According to the 2023 arrest warrant, when questioned by authorities, Moore said he hadn't expected the individual to act that way and acknowledged that the situation appeared serious.

The case highlights the devastating consequences of custody disputes turned violent. Moore's actions not only ended Vinson's life but also traumatized their young daughter and destroyed multiple families.

The tragic outcome of this custody battle serves as a sobering reminder of how extreme reactions to court decisions can lead to irreversible consequences. Rachiel Moore will spend the rest of her life in prison, while her daughter must grow up without either parent - one deceased and the other incarcerated for orchestrating his murder.
