A Florida nurse faces two years behind bars after her husband discovered her in a sexual act with his teenage son on their living room couch.
According to a Fox News report, Alexis Von Yates received the sentence following a plea deal in a case that shocked authorities in Marion County. The incident occurred on July 2024, when Von Yates, then 34, engaged in sexual activity with her 15-year-old stepson while his father was at work.
Court documents detail that the stepson and his siblings were staying with Von Yates and her husband, Frank Von Yates, for the summer. The victim later told investigators that Von Yates had made inappropriate sexual comments to him for about a week before the encounter took place.
Husband Catches Inappropriate Act
Late that night, Frank Von Yates returned home from his job as a lineman after a late shift and entered through the garage door. He found his wife and stepson on the sofa, leading to an immediate confrontation where he yelled profanities at her and called her a child predator.
The stepson fled to the bathroom during the outburst, while Von Yates attempted to explain herself amid the chaos. Frank Von Yates then instructed his son to pack his things and drove him to his grandparents' house for safety.
An anonymous tip reached authorities four days after the July 26 incident, prompting a swift police investigation into the allegations. Officers interviewed the victim, who described the preceding days of escalating inappropriate behavior from Von Yates.
Prior Grooming Behaviors Revealed
Investigators learned that on the evening in question, the stepson and his siblings had gone to bed, leaving Von Yates and the teen alone. They smoked from a THC cartridge, played video games, and watched a horror movie together on the couch.
As they sat closely, Von Yates allegedly expressed being horny and mentioned not having sex for two weeks, building on earlier sexual jokes she had made. The situation escalated into physical contact despite hearing a noise from the garage, continuing until Frank Von Yates entered the room.
The victim provided a detailed account to detectives about the progression of events and Von Yates' advances over the prior week. This testimony formed the basis for the charges filed against her shortly after the probe began.
Court Accepts Reduced Plea Deal
Von Yates appeared in Marion County court on Monday and entered a no-contest plea to the reduced charge of lewd or lascivious battery on a child aged 12 to 16. This lesser offense avoided a trial on the original first-degree felony of sexual battery by a person in familial authority, which could have resulted in a life sentence.
Florida Fifth Judicial Circuit Judge Timothy T. McCourt approved the plea agreement because the victim's family consented to it. The judge noted the family's input as a key factor in his decision during the hearing.
The victim's mother addressed the court, labeling Von Yates an incestuous pedophile who had groomed and violated her son. She further accused Von Yates of showing no remorse and described her actions as despicable, calling her a coward.
Sentencing Details and Consequences
Von Yates must serve two years in state prison, followed by two years of community control and 10 years of sex offender probation. Her plea deal also requires 200 hours of community service, along with payment of fines and court fees.
Authorities arrested Von Yates on November 6, 2024, at her home in connection with the case. The Florida Department of Health suspended her nursing license soon after, effectively ending her career in the medical field.
The fallout has strained family ties, with the victim's mother reporting that Frank Von Yates has not spoken to his son since the incident. Court proceedings highlighted the emotional toll on all involved, emphasizing the need for ongoing support for the young victim.
