Ghana mourns the loss of a legal stalwart.
According to Ghana Web, his Lordship Justice Julius Ansah, a pillar in the Ghanaian judicial system for over four decades, has died at the age of 74.
Beginning his judicial journey in 1979 as a District Magistrate Grade II, Justice Ansah’s career was marked by dedication and ascension through the court ranks. By 1981, his exemplary service elevated him to District Magistrate Grade I.
His legal acumen continued to propel him forward, first to the Circuit Court in 1986 and then to the High Court in 1989.
Significant Contributions in the Higher Courts
While serving at the High Court, Justice Ansah was recognized as a Supervising High Court Judge, and in 1999, his career advanced to the Court of Appeal.
His extensive experience and profound understanding of the law culminated in his appointment to the Supreme Court in 2004, where he served with distinction for 16 years.
During his time on the Supreme Court, Justice Ansah even temporarily filled the role of Chief Justice, cementing his legacy as a versatile and pivotal figure in Ghana’s judiciary.
His contributions were not confined to the judiciary alone. Before his tenure as a magistrate, Justice Ansah made significant strides at the Attorney-General’s Department in Koforidua after his call to the Bar, showcasing his commitment to justice in various capacities.
Renowned for Leadership and Integrity
Justice Ansah's influence extended beyond the courtroom; he actively served on the General Legal Council and the Judicial Council and took charge as Director of the Public Complaints Unit & Inspectorate Unit.
His retirement in 2020 was honored at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra, where he received a citation, a long service award, and a retirement package in recognition of his invaluable contributions to Ghana’s legal landscape.
