Former UK Officer Convicted in Wife’s Georgia Murder

 July 19, 2025

A former London police officer has been found guilty in Georgia of murdering his wife in a killing prosecutors called both brutal and calculated.

According to Fox News, Brian McManus, 57, was convicted of killing 63-year-old Lucille Ann McManus in Warner Robins, Georgia, after she uncovered his extramarital affair and threatened to reveal their alleged sham marriage meant to secure him legal residency in the United States.

The killing occurred on November 24, 2023, and was first reported to authorities by McManus himself as an apparent suicide. When Warner Robins police arrived at the scene, they discovered Lucille’s unclothed body lying on a bed with visible trauma to her head. Investigators quickly determined the circumstances did not support McManus’ claims.

According to prosecutors, McManus attacked Lucille with an object as she exited the shower, then strangled her until she died. He then attempted to clean up the scene and took the couple’s dog out for a walk. It was after this, they said, that he placed the 911 call, attempting to present himself as a concerned husband who had returned home to find his wife dead.

Former Officer’s Past Behavior Raised Red Flags

As the investigation unfolded, inconsistencies in McManus’ story began to emerge. At trial, investigators revealed that McManus made contradictory statements to law enforcement and showed little emotional distress over the loss of his wife. Instead, authorities noted, he was mostly preoccupied with how the situation would affect his legal standing. McManus tried to deflect suspicion by pointing fingers at others living in the home, including Lucille’s granddaughter and the granddaughter’s boyfriend. However, both were ruled out as suspects by phone records and alibi confirmations. Cell phone data placed them away from the home at the time of the murder.

Adding to the body of evidence, security camera footage near the couple’s home showed McManus walking near a drainage ditch on the day of the murder. Police later discovered a rubber mallet and a phone in that area, items that prosecutors argued had been discarded to eliminate evidence.

Sham Marriage Motivated by Immigration Goals, Prosecutors Say

The prosecution argued that the McManus marriage had never been based on love but was instead orchestrated so that McManus could obtain a green card. The couple reportedly met on the dating app Tinder and married just three months later. Lucille, described by prosecutors as a woman experiencing loneliness, was taken advantage of by McManus, who they said exploited her emotional vulnerability to gain immigration benefits. Prosecutors stated McManus had a history of manipulative behavior and violence against women.

His past resurfaced during the trial. McManus was previously fired from the London police after multiple women accused him of sexually inappropriate conduct. His first marriage ended following a domestic violence arrest—a fact that prosecutors used to show a pattern of abuse and deception.

Confrontation Over Affair Led to Murder, According to Trial Evidence

The situation escalated when Lucille discovered that McManus was seeing another woman in Florida. Prosecutors said he accidentally sent her a message meant for his mistress, revealing the ongoing affair. This discovery reportedly prompted Lucille to threaten to expose their marriage as fraudulent. Prosecutors argued that rather than face deportation or criminal charges, McManus resorted to murder. They presented evidence that he tampered with the scene to stage the death as a suicide. “McManus tried to cover the murder up, pin it on the victim’s family, and walk away without consequence. He failed,” the Houston County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement on Facebook following the conviction.

Case Highlights Risks of Intimate Partner Violence

The case has attracted attention from local leaders as part of a broader campaign to address domestic homicides. Houston County officials stressed that this incident underscores the dangers posed by those who exploit relationships for personal gain. “This was a brutal and calculated murder carried out by an evil sociopath who views the women in his life as disposable,” said District Attorney Eric Z. Edwards. The office emphasized that they will aggressively pursue justice in all domestic violence cases. Assistant District Attorney Ada Duane added, “Miss Ann was a lonely woman, and the defendant used that to his advantage. He used her to abuse our immigration system and then, when he got caught, brutally killed her.”

Tinder Responds with Safety Protocols and Support

The dating app where the couple first met also responded to the case. In a statement, Tinder emphasized that user safety remains its priority and outlined the company’s cooperation with law enforcement. “If a user contacts us to report a crime or unsafe incident—whether it occurred on the app or following a match—we take the matter extremely seriously,” a Tinder spokesperson said. The company pointed to its structured, trauma-informed response process for such reports.

Additionally, they noted that law enforcement agencies can request relevant user data within the boundaries of applicable laws and privacy protocols. The company expressed sympathy for the family of the victim.

Community Reflects and Recommits to Victim Advocacy

Warner Robins officials and community leaders have responded to the conviction with renewed calls to prevent future occurrences of family violence. The District Attorney’s Office said this tragedy illustrates why more support and vigilance are needed for vulnerable individuals. “As our community launches a renewed initiative to prevent family violence homicides, this case is a gut-wrenching reminder of what’s at stake,” a statement from the DA’s office read. Officials promised continued efforts to protect victims and prosecute abusers with full legal force.

Brian McManus is expected to face sentencing following his conviction. The case has left a profound impact on the Warner Robins community and serves as a reminder of how calculated violence can be cloaked in the guise of intimacy.
