An illegal immigrant from Mexico has been taken into custody after allegedly making a direct threat against President Donald Trump's life. The arrest comes less than a year after the assassination attempt on Trump at a Pennsylvania rally and just weeks after controversial statements by a former FBI Director.
According to Breitbart, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested 54-year-old Ramon Morales-Reyes on May 22 after he threatened to kill the president in a handwritten note.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the arrest on Wednesday, revealing that Morales-Reyes had handed an intelligence officer a note in which he explicitly threatened to shoot President Trump at an upcoming rally before returning to Mexico.
Detailed threat against presidential life
The handwritten note contained disturbing details about the illegal alien's intentions toward the president. Morales-Reyes expressed anger about Trump's policies regarding Mexicans and made specific references to using a weapon at a future rally.
In the note, Morales-Reyes wrote: "My family and I think it is time Donald J. Trump get what he has coming to him. I will self-deport myself back to Mexico but not before I use my 30 yard 6 to shoot your precious president in is [sic] head — I will see him at one of his big rallies."
Secretary Noem expressed gratitude to ICE officers for apprehending the suspect, stating that "this illegal alien who threatened to assassinate President Trump is behind bars." She connected this incident to the broader context of threats against the president, including last year's shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Extensive criminal background
Records show that Morales-Reyes has a long history of illegal entry into the United States and criminal activity. His pattern of border crossings dates back more than two decades, with immigration officials documenting his presence.
ICE officials reported that Morales-Reyes had crossed the U.S.-Mexico border illegally at least nine times between 1998 and 2005. This repeated pattern of illegal entry demonstrates a persistent disregard for U.S. immigration laws and border security measures.
Beyond immigration violations, the 54-year-old Mexican national has accumulated an extensive criminal record, including serious offenses such as felony hit-and-run, criminal damage to property, and disorderly conduct with a domestic abuse modifier, according to information provided by ICE.
Growing concerns about political rhetoric
Secretary Noem connected the threat to recent controversial statements made about the president, calling for restraint in political discourse. Her comments highlighted the potential real-world consequences of inflammatory language.
In her statement, Noem specifically referenced former FBI Director Comey's recent controversial comments, suggesting a link between heated rhetoric and physical threats against the president. "All politicians and members of the media should take notice of these repeated attempts on President Trump's life and tone down their rhetoric," she said.
The secretary pledged to "continue to take all measures necessary to ensure the protection of President Trump," indicating ongoing concern about the president's security following multiple threats and last year's assassination attempt.
Detention and deportation proceedings
The Mexican national will remain in custody while authorities process his case and prepare for his eventual removal from the United States. Officials have provided specific details about his current detention situation.
Morales-Reyes is currently being held at the Dodge County Jail in Juneau, Wisconsin, under ICE custody. He will remain there pending deportation proceedings that will eventually return him to Mexico, according to officials familiar with the case.
The arrest highlights the ongoing challenges faced by immigration enforcement agencies in identifying and apprehending individuals who pose potential threats to national security or public figures. This case demonstrates the intersection between immigration enforcement and protective services for government officials.
