Los Angeles Officials Report Major Injuries During Violent Anti-ICE Protests

 June 15, 2025

Dozens of protesters clashed violently with law enforcement across Los Angeles this month, leading to injuries, arrests, and an ongoing state of heightened emergency.

According to Fox News, Los Angeles and nearby counties have seen widespread unrest since June 6, 2025, as demonstrators reacted to recent ICE operations with large-scale protests, some turning violent, resulting in law enforcement injuries, mass arrests, and the deployment of the National Guard.

Violent protests erupted on June 6 following a series of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids across Southern California. The law enforcement actions prompted an immediate and fervent response from the community, sparking demonstrations that spread far beyond Los Angeles city limits.

As days of protest unfolded, tension between demonstrators and police intensified. Protesters in cities like Paramount, California, engaged in increasingly dangerous tactics, reportedly throwing rocks, Molotov cocktails, and explosive-grade pyrotechnics at officers. Fires were set using debris, primarily in industrial districts where law enforcement had established defensive positions. Throughout the following week, the situation escalated. On Tuesday, June 11, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert G. Luna held a press conference to update the public on conditions on the ground. District Attorney Nathan Hochman was also present to assess the continuing legal ramifications of the unrest.

Law Enforcement Injuries and On-The-Ground Challenges

By Friday, June 13, Sheriff Luna revealed that close to a dozen deputies had been injured since the protests began. He stated that 10 deputies sustained injuries from direct assaults during confrontations with violent demonstrators. “We have been encountering some interesting weapons out there,” Luna said, referring to the explosives and objects being used against law enforcement. “There is a big difference between peaceful protesters and individuals who come prepared to attack our folks.”

Luna emphasized that while many people are protesting for causes they believe in, the presence of agitators with violent motives has created a volatile environment. He added, “It’s a good cause, but we do not want violent agitators out there destroying property or committing acts of violence specifically against our police officers, deputy sheriffs, and CHP officers.”

National Response and Preventive Measures

In response, President Trump deployed the National Guard to Los Angeles to assist local agencies in curbing the rising violence. Federal support came after hundreds of demonstrators had already been taken into custody across the region.

The Los Angeles mayor instituted a citywide curfew, aimed specifically at reducing criminal activity occurring during nighttime hours. The curfew, introduced ahead of the weekend, remains in effect as officials try to stabilize the situation before additional planned demonstrations. Law enforcement agencies statewide, including the California Highway Patrol (CHP), are patrolling key areas to identify and prevent emerging threats. CHP officers are also tasked with protecting state infrastructure from potential vandalism or sabotage.

Police Preparedness for Continued Demonstrations

Despite the curfew orders, demonstrations have continued into mid-June, and officials are preparing for a nationwide protest planned for Saturday, June 14. This upcoming event is expected to attract thousands of participants, many of whom are expressing opposition to current immigration policies under the Trump administration.

Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell addressed the media ahead of the planned gathering. “We’re closely monitoring developments and deploying our personnel and resources strategically to protect public safety while safeguarding every individual's right to protest peacefully,” he said. McDonnell made it clear that unlawful behavior would not be tolerated during the protests. “If you come to our city with the intent to commit crimes, damage property, or harm others, including our officers, you will be arrested,” he stated.

Community Reactions and Safety Expectations

While the city braces for further activity, leaders have reiterated their commitment to protecting free speech alongside public safety. Both local and federal officials acknowledge the importance of lawful protest but are drawing a firm line around violence and disorder.

Chief McDonnell urged those participating in Saturday’s protest to maintain peaceful conduct. “We will not allow violence, vandalism, or threats to public safety to undermine the rights of those who are demonstrating lawfully,” he said. “We’re asking everyone who plans to participate in Saturday's event to do so peacefully and respectfully,” McDonnell added, as authorities adopt a full deployment strategy across the metropolitan area.

Citywide Impacts and Ongoing Enforcement Efforts

The weeklong unrest has had significant impacts on daily life in Los Angeles, with businesses closing early, public transportation systems adjusting routes, and emergency services operating on high alert. The curfew has also affected thousands of residents' evening routines as officials seek to bring calm to the streets.

Authorities continue to monitor developments and respond dynamically as the situation evolves. Law enforcement leadership from multiple agencies is coordinating with city officials to prepare for any escalations stemming from the planned protests on Saturday. As unrest continues into a second weekend, Los Angeles remains at a crossroads between civil expression and civil disorder. Leaders are calling for peace, but they are also signaling zero tolerance for actions that threaten lives or property.
