Music supervisor for ‘American Idol’ and husband slain in Los Angeles home

 August 26, 2025

The gruesome double homicide of "American Idol" executive producer Robin Kaye and her husband, Thomas Deluca, has shocked the entertainment industry.

According to the New York Post, death certificates revealed that both victims, aged 70, died from multiple gunshot wounds in their Los Angeles residence. The incident occurred on July 10 when the couple returned home from grocery shopping, only to encounter an armed intruder inside their property.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office disclosed that while Deluca died instantly from his wounds, Kaye endured several minutes of suffering before her death. The couple's bodies were not discovered until July 14, when police conducted a welfare check at their $4.5 million Encino home.

Suspect's Criminal History Raises Questions About System

Raymond Boodarian, 22, has been identified as the primary suspect in the double homicide case. The alleged killer, who has a documented history of drug use and mental illness, was reportedly burglarizing the couple's home when they returned.

Court records indicate that Boodarian had accumulated at least three prior arrests between late 2023 and early 2024. The charges ranged from battery to making threats with a weapon, yet he was released the same day after multiple arrests.

Police were able to identify Boodarian through fingerprints from his previous arrests. The suspect allegedly used the couple's own firearm to commit the murders after entering through an unlocked front door.

Critical Police Response Under Scrutiny

A neighbor reported suspicious activity on the day of the murders, witnessing someone jumping the couple's fence around 4 p.m. Local law enforcement responded to the call with significant resources, including a helicopter surveillance operation.

Despite the neighbor's alert and aerial support, responding officers found nothing immediately concerning during their external inspection of the property. The tragic reality was that Kaye and Deluca were already deceased inside their residence.

The delayed discovery of the bodies has raised questions about police protocol and response procedures. The victims' remains were not found until four days after their deaths, when officers finally entered the home for a welfare check.

Legal Proceedings Face Mental Health Complications

Boodarian's August 20 arraignment in Los Angeles was interrupted when he refused to respond to the judge's questions. The suspect remains in custody without bail while awaiting his next court appearance.

The accused killer has been scheduled for mental health court on September 3. This development suggests that mental competency may become a central issue in the prosecution of this case.

Kaye's legacy includes more than 15 years of distinguished service with "American Idol" and multiple Guild of Music Supervisors Awards. Her untimely death, along with her husband's, marks a tragic end to their contributions to the entertainment industry.

Investigation Continues as Community Mourns

The double homicide has sent shockwaves through both the entertainment industry and the affluent Encino community. The couple's violent deaths have highlighted concerns about home security and criminal justice system failures.

The Los Angeles Police Department continues to gather evidence and build their case against Boodarian. The suspect's history of mental illness and previous encounters with law enforcement are being thoroughly examined.

Both victims were cremated on July 23, leaving behind a legacy of professional excellence and personal tragedy. Their deaths have prompted discussions about security measures in upscale neighborhoods and the handling of repeat offenders with mental health issues.
