Pennsylvania Canvasser Charged With Registering Deceased Voters

 December 21, 2024

In Pennsylvania, a shocking case has emerged involving Jennifer Hill, a former employee of the New Pennsylvania Project, accused of forging voter registrations.

According to the Daily Wire, Jennifer Hill faces charges for registering 181 deceased individuals, including her father, to vote in the recent presidential election.

Jennifer Hill, 38, was employed as a canvasser by the New Pennsylvania Project, which aims to empower underrepresented communities in voting processes. This organization draws inspiration from the successful New Georgia Project initiated by Stacey Abrams.

From April to September 2024, Hill submitted voter registrations for 310 individuals in Delaware County. However, investigations later revealed a disturbing detail: many of those registered were no longer alive.

Hill's efforts to include deceased persons as voters included her deceased father, adding a personal and troubling aspect to her actions. This has led to her being charged with four counts of forgery, reflecting serious breaches of legal and ethical standards.

System Vulnerabilities Exposed by Voter Registration Fraud

Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer highlighted a significant flaw in the voter registration system that Hill exploited. According to Stollsteimer, the system did not require a date of birth or social security number, which allowed registrations to be processed without complete checks.

“She did register a fraudulent person and my understanding is this is sort of a gap in the system where by putting in no date of birth and no social security number, it goes through and became a verified voter registration,” Stollsteimer stated. His statements underline the need for legislative action to patch these vulnerabilities.

Stollsteimer expressed concern about the potential scale of this issue, as Hill’s case involved numerous registrations where the validity of the information could not be verified. This raises questions about the effectiveness of current safeguards in the voter registration process.

Organizational Response to Voter Registration Issues

Following notification from the Pennsylvania Department of State about irregularities in Hill's activities, the New Pennsylvania Project took immediate action. Kadida Kenner, CEO of the organization, addressed the incident and elaborated on the steps taken.

“Earlier this year, the Pennsylvania Department of State informed the New PA Project Education Fund (NPPEF) about potential issues regarding attempted voter registration by one of our former canvassers working in Delaware County. Immediately upon being notified of the potential issues, we suspended the staff member pending an investigation,” Kenner explained.

The organization paused its voter registration efforts in several areas to conduct an internal review, reflecting its commitment to maintaining the integrity of electoral processes. This response was crucial to addressing the breach of trust and preventing future incidents.

Advocating for Representation and Healing Through Voting

Kadida Kenner also spoke about the broader mission of the New Pennsylvania Project, emphasizing its focus on communities of color, youth, and immigrants. Her vision extends to national leadership, expressing hope for future electoral milestones.

“To see a black woman potentially at the top of the ticket on a November ballot just blows my mind. I just know that this is an opportunity for us to protect our rights with an opportunity for a woman who looks like me at the top of the ticket. I know this is an opportunity this nation needs,” Kenner remarked, underlining the transformative potential of inclusive political representation.

Kenner’s comments reflect a dual focus on addressing current challenges and looking forward to a future where electoral processes are not only secure but also inclusive. This aspiration plays a potential role in national healing, proposing that leadership diversity can foster broader societal recovery and unity.
