Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to solidify a 20-year strategic alliance with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, a deal that strengthens military and defense cooperation between the two countries.
According to The Sun, US, the agreement, signed just two days before Donald Trump took office, has heightened tensions with Western democracies already critical of both nations’ growing collaboration.
The alliance will formalize extensive military ties between Moscow and Tehran, signaling a deepening partnership amid ongoing global conflicts. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the treaty as encompassing trade, military, science, education, and cultural cooperation.
He dismissed suggestions that the timing was linked to Trump’s inauguration, asserting the deal was planned well in advance.
