A manhunt for a dangerous murder suspect ended Tuesday morning when 28-year-old Austin Robert Drummond was taken into custody in Jackson, Tennessee. Drummond had been on the run for a week after allegedly killing four people and kidnapping an infant.

According to ABC News, law enforcement officials apprehended Drummond after multiple community residents spotted him near a vacant building and called 911. The suspect had been considered armed and dangerous since the July 29 killings.

Authorities had been searching for Drummond in connection with the murders of 38-year-old Cortney Rose, her children, 20-year-old Adrianna Williams, and 15-year-old Braydon Williams, and Adrianna's boyfriend, 21-year-old James "Michael" Wilson. The victims' bodies were discovered along a road in Lake County in northwest Tennessee.

Community Vigilance Leads To Successful Capture

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director David Rausch praised the public's involvement in the case during a Tuesday afternoon news conference. "This is a perfect example of police and community cooperation," Rausch said.

Jackson Police Chief Thom Corley detailed how residents first spotted Drummond around 8 a.m. Tuesday near a vacant building where investigators believe he had been hiding. Additional 911 calls, including one at 8:57 a.m., helped officers pinpoint the suspect's location in a wooded area.

Officers quickly surrounded the area and took Drummond into custody at 9:05 a.m. without incident. Corley introduced the three officers who made the arrest at the news conference, crediting them for being "at the right spot" and acting immediately.

Connection To Victims Through Family Relationship

Investigators revealed that Drummond knew the victims through his girlfriend, who was the daughter of Cortney Rose and the sister of Adrianna and Braydon Williams. This family connection appears to have played a role in the tragedy.

The same day as the killings, Wilson and Williams' baby was found abandoned in a car seat on a "random individual's front yard" in nearby Dyer County. The infant's discovery led to the kidnapping charge against Drummond.

Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive for the killings, noting that the investigation is still ongoing. The brutal nature of the crime shocked the northwest Tennessee community and triggered an intense manhunt.

Reward Money And Public Assistance

The search for Drummond intensified after police released an image of him captured Sunday on a home security camera. This release came just a day before his eventual capture.

At the time of Drummond's arrest, a reward of up to $30,000 was being offered for information leading to his capture. Rausch indicated that the reward money would likely be shared among those whose 911 calls led to the successful apprehension.

Drummond was unarmed when taken into custody, but Rausch noted that police have since recovered several firearms. These weapons will be analyzed to determine if they were used in the homicides.

Multiple Charges And Additional Arrests

Drummond now faces multiple serious charges related to the killings and kidnapping. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has charged him with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated kidnapping.

Additionally, Drummond faces four counts of felon in possession of a firearm and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. These charges highlight his previous criminal history.

During the search for Drummond, law enforcement also arrested four other individuals accused of being accessories after the fact to the homicides. Details about these additional suspects and their alleged involvement have not been fully disclosed.
