An attempt to steal a vehicle involving a former staff member from Donald Trump's administration has prompted an increase in federal law enforcement in Washington, D.C.
According to NPR, President Donald Trump aims to tackle violent crime in Washington, D.C., by deploying federal agencies following a carjacking attempt on a former staffer.
In response to a concerning event involving an ex-staffer, federal agencies, including the U.S. Park Police, are leading a new initiative in the nation’s capital. The additional federal officers began operating early Friday morning, with the effort scheduled for a week but with the option for an extension.
This initiative involves more than a dozen federal entities, such as the U.S. Capitol Police, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the U.S. Marshals Service.
The National Guard has not been mobilized for this operation. Despite the heightened federal involvement, residents and city officials have not reported any significant rise in law enforcement visibility as of yet.

Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for the administration, stated, “President Trump has directed an increased presence of federal law enforcement to protect innocent citizens. There will be no safe harbor for violent criminals in D.C. President Trump is committed to making our nation’s capital safer for its residents, lawmakers, and visitors from all around the world.”
President Trump expressed his views sharply in correspondence and public statements, suggesting further steps if improvements are not seen. In a recent communication, the president said, "If D.C. doesn’t get its act together, and quickly, we will have no choice but to take Federal control of the City, and run this City how it should be run, and put criminals on notice that they’re not going to get away with it anymore.”
