High Costs of Secret Service Protection for Hunter Biden Surfaces

 April 15, 2024

A substantial sum of taxpayer money, over $4.5 million, has been channeled into the Secret Service operations for Hunter Biden's security detail in Malibu.

The Secret Service agents were stationed at Hunter Biden’s residence, ensuring round-the-clock surveillance. To facilitate their mission, they spent a large part of this budget on accommodations and operational needs adjacent to Biden's domicile.

According to Daily Mail, the cost breakdown reveals that agents rented a six-bedroom Spanish-style villa costing $30,000 a month right next to Hunter's high-priced rental. Besides the villa rental, other significant expenditures included $1.12 million on various expenses like hotel rooms and $632,071 on rental cars.

The detailed financial records highlight the extensive costs incurred from February 2021 to June 2022. During this period, more than $2.8 million of the expenditures were charged directly to a government-issued credit card. These charges covered various essentials and operational items required for this high-level protective operation.

Records Revealed Through Freedom of Information Act

These expenditures came to light thanks to a diligent request via the Freedom of Information Act by DailyMail.com. The obtained records explicitly depict spending behavior with receipts from popular retailers such as Home Depot, Best Buy, Staples, and Amazon.

This financial report also included a notably specific expense of $3,588.43 at a New York camera and video store, evidencing the diverse needs of the protective team during their lengthy deployment in Malibu.

Regarding the Secret Service's operational transparency, a spokesperson emphasized the agency's commitment to ensuring the continuity of government through high-level protection during an interview. "The primary mission of the United States Secret Service is to safeguard the continuity of the American government," the spokesperson explained.

Secret Service Demands High-Security Discretion

The spokesperson elaborated on the methods employed: "We do this by employing advanced protective methodology that includes the use of sophisticated technology and highly trained special agents and mission support teams to be with our protectees and their families."

However, regarding the specifics of the operations, the agency maintains a strong stance on secrecy for security purposes. "For operational security reasons, the Secret Service does not discuss the specific means, methods, resources, or costs used to conduct these protective responsibilities," the spokesperson added.

Meanwhile, Hunter Biden, facing several legal challenges, including a federal tax indictment, relocated to a $15,800-per-month home in Malibu in August 2023, along with his wife, Melissa Cohen, and their son, Beau.

Despite the transparency in the itemized expenses used for Hunter Biden's protection, the Secret Service spent two years producing these records. Furthermore, the records stopped in June 2022, suggesting the possibility of ongoing similar expenditures post that date.

Conclusion

The financial outlay of over $4.5 million on Hunter Biden's Secret Service protection in Malibu underscores the costly nature of securing high-profile individuals. Significant costs included rentals of nearby properties, substantial expenses on transport and lodging, and various operational requisites extending over 16 months.

This scrutiny of spending opens discussions on the necessity and efficiency of such expenditures and reflects the Secret Service's unwavering dedication to their critical role in national security, albeit with an ethos of confidentiality about their protective operations.
