A horrifying crime spree has left the small Georgia town of Acworth in shock. The suspect committed over 40 violent crimes over the span of a week before finally being apprehended.
In a tragic turn of events, a firefighter and his wife were murdered in their home by the suspect. Fortunately, the couples 2-year-old was left alive and is now living with his grandparents.
When Officers finally caught up to the suspect, things got chaotic in a hurry when the suspect was unaffected by a taser:
“The suspect ran towards one of the officers and stabbed him multiple times,” according to the SPPD. “A back-up officer who witnessed the attack, shot the suspect in an attempt to stop the stabbing.”Source
The injured officer was quickly dragged to safety and another officer began rendering aid. The wounded officer is doing well and is expected to make a full recovery.
The suspect, 22-year-old Matthew Lanz, was shot while attacking the officer and is also expected to survive.
Justin Hicks, the Firefighter killed along with his wife was a beloved member of the community. He and his wife Amber will be sorely missed!
