Tactical Officers Respond To 4th Of July Mass Shooting

Fort Worth

On July 4, a little after 1:30 a.m., there was a shooting in the Como neighborhood by the car wash. Just hours earlier, hundreds of people in the area attended a block party, a gathering that ended at 10 p.m.

However, even though the party had been over for hours, people were still hanging out and socializing in the area. According to KXAS, a group of men was hanging around after the block party was over.

The men got into an argument, and one of them left and walked away with a gun in his hand. The man began shooting, and others in the crowd fired back at him.

Lonnie Lambert was on his porch enjoying the fireworks when he noticed the sound changed.

“But I kept hearing it and it was going rapid. Bob, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop. So I was like, ‘No, that’s something more than fireworks”

Officers Arrive

An officer was patrolling over on the 3400-block of Horne Street, and he heard the shots. The responding officers found that eight people by the car wash had been shot.

The officers immediately began rendering aid to those who were wounded before the medics’ arrival. All eight went to the hospital nearby for treatment.

According to officers, all of the wounded people were not involved in the fight and were just bystanders. In addition, the injured party-goers were all listed in stable condition.

A car trying to speed away from the area hit a female child, who had minor injuries. The victim’s identities were not released, and no one has been arrested in connection with the incident yet.

Unfotunate Incident

Forth Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes said in a press conference, “This is an extremely tragic event that happened on what is supposed to be a festive occasion.” He also said his detectives were working on putting together the pieces of what happened that night, including looking at what type of an event it was.

There were gun shells from many different guns onsite. Noakes said the incident was frustrating and said they were going to track down the people responsible.

“We’re praying there will be no loss of life, we’re praying there will be no loss of life, we’re praying for the wellbeing of the victims and for comfort for them and their loved ones. ”
