WATCH: Daring Officer Bravely Clings to Escaping Car with Gun Drawn

 May 20, 2023

A tense situation unfolded in Iowa when an officer was compelled to mount the hood of a car during an attempted escape by a driver. This began after a police officer pulled the driver over. In response, another officer moved forward to provide backup, marking the moment the driver decided to flee.

Captured on video, the driver can be seen gradually maneuvering his red car as an officer, with gun drawn, stands ready. Rather than discharging his weapon, the brave officer took the decision to leap onto the hood of the car, imploring the driver to halt. Even as the officer maintained his aim at the driver from his precarious position on the car's hood, the man behind the wheel didn't apply the brakes, his hands raised in a futile gesture of surrender.

As the event escalated, the driver sped up, forcing the clinging officer to literally hold on for his life.

Unfortunately, this tumble led to the officer sustaining a broken vertebrae. However, the story comes to a conclusive end with the driver, identified as Dennis James Guider Jr., pleading guilty to serious injury by vehicle, earning him a five-year prison sentence. In a triumphant endnote, the injured officer has made a full recovery and has returned to duty, demonstrating the resilience and determination of our brave law enforcement.
