The incident began around 4:30 a.m. at an apartment building located in the 100-Block of Emerald Ash. A fight erupted at a party in one of the apartments, spilling into the complex's parking lot. The 48-year-old Crystal City police officer, in uniform and working a security job, attempted to break up the group.

As the officer was intervening, a man armed with a sawed-off shotgun barged in, pointing the weapon at the officer and those involved in the brawl. The armed suspect ordered the officer not to move, holding him at gunpoint. The situation was incredibly tense, with the officer showing immense courage and composure.
